Fat Talk

We all do it, whether we want to or not.

201104051050.jpg

I needed to gain weight a few weeks ago, which I have and I feel great and health although as you can imagine it's been a little hard to adjust.

The other night I was lying in bed after having one too many spoonfuls of cashew butter straight out of the jar thinking, why would you do that? I hate myself, I hate my body. Then I stopped... I HATE MY BODY?! After it ran 11 miles for me on Saturday? Well that is just wrong.

Ever since I've put needed weight back on, my ED side has been fat talking in full force. For real ED? After everything else you've put me through now this? So very rude.

201104051046.jpg

We're told to "fight" fat talk, put it down, don't let it creep into your life, don't let others do it around you. But how? How do you knock down that deeply embedded voice in your head telling you you're not good enough?

201104051053.jpg

Athlete's cannot hate their body. Our bodies do too much for us.

What I needed to do was replace the behavior. Now every time I was to say I hate my body I say, for some shallow reason that the world has instilled in me I don't feel like I look good. But I am a strong runner and not everyone can say that!

This morning I had planned on a random bike workout but I ended up doing 15 minutes of random and 45 minutes of intervals with a 5 minute cool down. DSCI0002.JPG

I'm out of peta =(. So before I had some whole wheat toast with laughing cow and fruit spread

DSCI0005.JPG

Breakfast was a yogurt bowl with banana, blueberries, raw oats, kashi honey sunshine, cashew and almond butter and honey drizzle.

Peace!

Caitlin

How do you fight fat talk?

Do you read beauty magazines or do you avoid them?

April Goals

This is what I've been seeing out of my window this whole month so far =( DSCI0004.JPG

It's ok though, I just pretend I'm this guy =)

201104041107.jpg

I know I'm a little late on April goals but the first Monday of the month is a pretty legit time too!

1) Do not get Injured: I've been having some shin pain recently and this morning woke up and something is off about my hip. I'm not sure what's going on with me but I am not going to prolong any kind of potential injury.

2) Keep up the Yoga: I've been doing really well making it to class once a week, I want to keep it up!

3)Post more workouts: Fairly self explanatory, I want to share more of how I gym with you all!

4) Listen to my body: Way too much mindless late night snacking for not reason has ensued over the past few weeks, I'm want to break the habit like yesterday.

5)USE FOOD!!!: The semester is almost over and I could feed the whole campus... help!

This morning due to my healing cold and hip I could have run but did not. I started but realized it would have just been a super slow, boring 3 miles and I wasn't trying to further any pain on junk miles.

Instead I hit up the ET for 34 minutes (5 miles). I put it on random and did reverse intervals every other song. I normally don't spend more than 15 minutes on the ET... how do you people do it?! It was a great tough workout but I was BORED TO DEATH!

I then did 40 minutes of full body weights and core, I went lighter high reps today except for dead-lifts... 20 LBS IN EACH HAND BABY!

Breakfast... I'm officially out of Barney butter *too many tears*

DSCI0002.JPG

In this mix

1/3 cup oats

1 packet carnation instant breakfast (I thought I'd experiment because it tastes more chocolaty than protein powder... I like both!)

~3/4 cup skim milk

1 heaping tbsp chia seeds

1 truvia packet

topped with banana, dried cherries and ground flax

DSCI0004.JPG

Barney butter, chia, chocolate goodness <3 <3

DSCI0003.JPG

Plus the elixir of life. Off to pack lunch and homework!

Peace!

Caitlin

How has your April been so far?

What's your fave salad combo? I need some lunch inspiration...

Want to come help me eat all of my food before the semester ends?

Caitlin

What's your favorite cereal?

Brace Yourself

AHHHHHHH!DSCI0001.JPG

Apparently this is what 12 hours of sleep with a cold looks like in the morning... who knew?

I was GOING to go out last night. I showered, put on make up and an outfit... and then started to feel like poo. I guess the 11 miles while trying to surpress a cold caught up to me.

I fell asleep fully clothed on my made up bed at 9:30, woke up at 2 to put on PJs and slept until 9 this morning.

201104031040.jpg

Can you be hungover without drinking?

I was hungry fro breakfast but not everything was looking so good. I wanted oats and cold cereal. I though it would be a good day to try the Fitnessista's breakfast cookie dough!

DSCI0004.JPG

I mixed

1/3 cup oats

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

1 big spoon cashew butter

a few splashes of skim milk

1/2 a banana

truvia

cinnamon

vanilla almond granola for crunch

DSCI0006.JPG

I ended up drowning it in milk for more coldness. This is GENUIS, will definitely be added to me rotation!

DSCI0008.JPG

I always eat at my desk, this morning I ate here (Cinnamon is reading your blogs). I should eat here on more Sundays =).

Peace!

Caitlin

How did you sleep last night?

What is sleeping in for you? I never sleep past 8, this is a big deal!

It's Official

I am getting a cold =(

It's not too bad yet so I'm taking steps in order to keep it that way, I will not miss my long run on Saturday!

I used my neti pot this morning. If you don't know what that is here is an example.

201103311046.jpg

You mix salt and warm water and it goes in one side and out the other! I know it looks weird and may seem gross but trust it works!

I'm also taking extra vitamin C and plan on getting a green tea I.V.

I still went to the gym with the plan of a "do whatever feels alright" workout, I did an easy 50 minutes random bike workout

I was going to have a breakfast bake (in fact the batter is still in the fridge) but all I really wanted was hot oats.

DSCI0288.JPG

Hi, I'm Caitlin and I'm a Barney Butter addict. I finished one while waiting to use the other for oats... WOW

DSCI0291.JPG

Super almondy oats

Oats cooked with milk, almond extract and stevia

topped with vanilla almond granola and strawberries

DSCI0290.JPG

The rest of the almond butter

My first class was cancelled so I'm going to get my studying out of the way early so I can do some other stuff this evening!

*Also, I really want to do a Q&A vlog but I don't have any Q's! Please feel free to ask anything about running, weights or myself and I'll answer what I can!*

Peace!

Caitlin

Separation is Key

It was snowing today when I left class. There were tears. Although from twitter I am glad to know that it's not just my neck of the woods!

Remember this morning I mentioned that PerMa sent me this book?DSCI0100.JPG

Well as I mentioned I haven't finished i but I have already been applying some of the tactics of recovery and they have been helping! I'm going to start giving sharing somewhat regular tips as I come across them and they help me!

I've posted my favorite tips so far right on my bookshelf so I see the whenever I'm on my computer.

DSCI0121.JPG

Tip #1- Separate your personality from your E.D.

Your E.D. will tell you one thing, whatever it is, it is a lie. It is wrong. It goes against your true values. It can only hurt you. Learning to separate your thoughts and beliefs from your E.D's is the first major step. Literally say out loud what it is telling you and then say the truth. Address it like a person. For me, the way I've been telling the difference is asking myself "would you tell someone else to do that?"
DSCI0104.JPG

For instance, today I thought I should have a light lunch so I can eat a ton of crap at night and feel alright about it because I need the calories. Then I stopped, does that really make sense, would you tell anyone else to do that? Clearly it was E.D talking. Caitlin then said but I'm starving now and I need good fuel to make it through my afternoon class. I had a wrap with a lot more hummus than I normally use (which is not enough) a ton of baby carrots, cashews and raisins (both energy dense).

It completely filled me up without stuffing me at all, I was awake and alert through the afternoon and only just got hungry for an afternoon snack when I got back instead of sitting through the second half of class starving.

DSCI0105.JPG

Apple and almond butter

DSCI0109.JPG

For dinner I was inspired by Namaste Gurl ! I made some nooch pancakes, I followed what's on her blog but I added cumin and a handful of frozen corn to make them mexican!

DSCI0114.JPG

I topped them with a bunch of mushed avocado, greek yogurt and salsa. I also had roasted red pepper and broccoli (o my I forgot how much I loved it, definitely back in the rotation!)

Now enjoying a sprouted grain english muffin with PB2 and dark chocolate chips and watching the newest House! I'm so behind on shows!

Peace!

Caitlin

Do you talk to yourself? I always have and now do even more... yes out loud no matter where I am, I whisper to myself in public.

What shows do you watch every week? I love House, Glee, The Office and 30 Rock. When I'm at home I also hit up Real Housewives of New York and Bethenney.

How to Not Start Your Week

Realize you forgot to take your birth control all weekend because you are experiencing an unexpected visit from a certain aunt.

Experience a potential new running injury. 2.25 miles into my 3 mile run my left shin was screaming. I think it's the transition form sand to pavement, Don't worry, foam roll action had already ensued.

201103211111.jpg

Fart out loud while lifting weights in front of the cute weight room attendant... it happened, I'm trying to let it go.

Come back to your room to this

DSCI0043.JPG

DSCI0047.JPG

Forgot I put that in the freezer yesterday...

How TO start your week

Take Heather's advice and put chia seed in your overnight oats

DSCI0050.JPG

Last night mixed oats, chias, cherry extract, stevia, chocolate protein powder and stevia

DSCI0052.JPG

This morning topped with a banana, salty cashews, more milk and salt<-- key to deliciousness! Cinnamon was of course added too.

These may have been the greatest overnight oats ever, I might have a hard time going back to the yogurt variety.

Peace!

Caitlin

How were the first few hours of your week?
