I hate myself, I hate my body. Then I stopped... I HATE MY BODY?! After it ran 11 miles for me on Saturday? Well that is just wrong.

Ever since I've put needed weight back on, my ED side has been fat talking in full force. For real ED? After everything else you've put me through now this? So very rude.

We're told to "fight" fat talk, put it down, don't let it creep into your life, don't let others do it around you. Our bodies do too much for us.

What I needed to do was replace the behavior. Now every time I was to say I hate my body I say, for some shallow reason that the world has instilled in me I don't feel like I look good. But I am a strong runner and not everyone can say that!

This morning I had planned on a random bike workout but I ended up doing 15 minutes of random and 45 minutes of intervals with a 5 minute cool down.

I'm out of peta =(. As a vegetarian and self proclaimed foodie I love the topics that we study in this course, however much of the reading does cause a certain amount of indignation.

Today I read an article about corporation organic food. Many organic companies that began as grass roots and local have been bought by large corporations that continue the homegrown story in order to sell products. For instance, Kashi is actually owned by Kellogs, Cascadian Farms by Gerneral Mills, Horizon Organic by Dean's and Odwalla by none other that Coca Cola.

Personally, I don't think this information will change the way I shop though it may cause a bit of guilt knowing that the family farm story on my box of cereal is a straight lie.

For lunch I wanted to try a little something new with my salad

Spinach, raw tofu, cucus, mushrooms, apple, raisins and walnuts with white wine vin and garlic salt. Delicious! I also had a chewy kashi bar... ironically.

And got some great mail today!! 26 oz of almond butter (I was NOT about to go a whole month without it, sorry) and the new and my first Clean Eating magazine... I love today.

Due to my mail, snack was a given

And for dinner I made a ROCKING sandwich. Whole wheat pita with hummus, string cheese, tomato sauce, green olives and italian seasoning.

Like a Mediterranean pita pizza pocket, so good! Plus some steamed broc on the side.

Currently enjoying some PB toast and raisins and maybe a handful of cereal for dessert, see you tomorrow beautiful people!

Peace!

Caitlin

What's more important to you, local or organic?

Caitlinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07250402081821763898noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7748035643120551802.post-510777922428427862011-04-04T10:23:00.000-05:002011-04-04T10:24:40.017-05:00April Goals
This is what I've been seeing out of my window this whole month so far =(

It's ok though, I just pretend I'm this guy =)

I know I'm a little late on April goals but the first Monday of the month is a pretty legit time too!

1) Do not get Injured: I've been having some shin pain recently and this morning woke up and something is off about my hip. I'm not sure what's going on with me but I am not going to prolong any kind of potential injury.

2) Keep up the Yoga: I've been doing really well making it to class once a week, I want to keep it up!

3)Post more workouts: Fairly self explanatory, I want to share more of how I gym with you all!

4) Listen to my body: Way too much mindless late night snacking for not reason has ensued over the past few weeks, I'm want to break the habit like yesterday.

5)USE FOOD!!!: The semester is almost over and I could feed the whole campus... help!

This morning due to my healing cold and hip I could have run but did not. I started but realized it would have just been a super slow, boring 3 miles and I wasn't trying to further any pain on junk miles.

Instead I hit up the ET for 34 minutes (5 miles). I put it on random and did reverse intervals every other song. I normally don't spend more than 15 minutes on the ET... how do you people do it?! It was a great tough workout but I was BORED TO DEATH!

I then did 40 minutes of full body weights and core, I went lighter high reps today except for dead-lifts... 20 LBS IN EACH HAND BABY!

Breakfast... I'm officially out of Barney butter *too many tears*

In this mix

1/3 cup oats

1 packet carnation instant breakfast (I thought I'd experiment because it tastes more chocolaty than protein powder... I like both!)

~3/4 cup skim milk

1 heaping tbsp chia seeds

1 truvia packet

topped with banana, dried cherries and ground flax

Barney butter, chia, chocolate goodness <3 <3

Plus the elixir of life. Off to pack lunch and homework!

Peace!

Caitlin

How has your April been so far?

What's your fave salad combo? I told her that I had a long run and it's better to do it in the morning because it takes a long time, get it out of the way etc. and I am in training for a half marathon. The response?

What's wrong with you? Not in a mean way, she's very sweet. However the question was in my head through the whole run. Not just for me, but for all runners. What is wrong with us? Why do we do what we do?

Today on my run I had to stop to go to the bathroom twice, my shin hurt, my stomach hurt, I had a coughing fit, the wind almost blew me away and I ran through all of it. And had an amazing run.

Today I set a new PDR! There were so many times on this run I thought I wasn't going to finish. I even told myself to only do seven. At the exact moment the number hit eleven Lady Gaga blasting into my ears told me "I was born to be brave" and I burst into tears.

That is what's "wrong" with me. That is why I run.

Plus it makes me feel like this

I'm cool

Before I left I had a clif bar (standard) and then because my stomach was feeling odd dairy was not appealing so I had two waffles with cashew butter, cream cheese, banana, honey and cinnamon.

My cashew butter is disappearing too quickly for my liking. I actually called PerMa to tell her the news before it dawned on me what was going on!

However Caitlin's post plus an event this afternoon reminded me that I actually am pretty good at winning random things.

This afternoon I won Caroline's waffle give away (yahoo!!)

I won Kaitlin's coaches oats give away a few weeks ago

I actually tend to win those games where you grab the stuffed animal with the claw (I don't know whether to brag about this or not)

And the best thing I've ever won?

My sophomore year of high school, I won a 58 inch flat screen TV with 5 dvd changer and home theatre system in a raffle.

No I'm not lying it's in my house right now, I miss it very much when I'm at school watching The Office on my laptop.

Something I did not win at today? Now, I would really appreciate if it would start actually feeling like spring, it's getting there but not fast enough!

This is actually my last full month of school for the semester... yikes, and next year I'll be a junior.. MAJOR YIKES! Yesterday I registered for the classes I will be taking next semester. I realized that I've never really talked about my major on the blog although it is very relevant!

I came to school planning on majoring in theatre directing and english, as you might be able to tell, my passions have changed. I still do have an english minor which I absolutely love being able to do.

What I really want to major in? Exercise science and physiology. The problem? My school doesn't have a program, but it didn't seem worth transferring because I like my school. I know what I want to do after college,or me it was just a matter of finding something that could get me there.

What I am majoring in is Health and Society with a focus in fitness and nutrition. Most health and society majors have an interest in global and public health and infectious disease which is just not really my style.

I feel so luck to have been able to tweak the major to my passions. I am including psychology, nutrition and sociology. Instead of an internship I am being allowed to become a certified lifestyle and weight management counselor. I also plan on becoming certified as a group fitness instructor before I graduate.

I feel that having this major and these two certifications will allow me to enter the health and wellness industry right out of college someway in some capacity. I would love to be able to help people physically and mentally because I have struggled and overcome both.

Next semester I am taking Chemistry 117, Intro to Psychology, Global health and creative writing. Plus I already know that in the spring I will take nutrition, can't wait!

Workout

This morning I did a modified version of my Cardio/Strength circut. Instead of the ET I ran a mile, I don't normally run on Friday but I have 11 planed tomorrow and wanted to make it an even 20 for the week. I also added an extra round of weights.

For breakfast I used the rest of my cottage cheese (which expired yesterday =/) mixed with pumpkin, peanut flour, wheat chex, pumpkin pie spice and honey.

Does anyone else make there yogurt or cottage cheese mess in the container if your using the rest or is it just me?

Have a great Friday!

Peace!

Caitlin

What did you or are you majoring in?

Still looking for Q's for a Q and A vlog!

Caitlinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07250402081821763898noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7748035643120551802.post-80602607001465162022011-03-31T21:08:00.001-05:002011-03-31T21:08:58.410-05:00Fear and BPS
Have you seen Matt's post today? It's a great article, check it out!

In addition to my cold, this afternoon I got hit HARD with a case of BPS

Bottomless Pit Syndrome

I think a combo of biking and hustling around campus causing my normal raging appetite plus my body fighting this stupid cold made me feel that enough food didn't exist in the world...

For lunch I packed a hummus, avocado, nooch sandwich with spinach, dijon and tomato. Plus some grapes and dill pickle cashews

Snacks included

this amazing combo of pumpkin, the rest of the PB2, stevia, pumpkin pie spice and a scoop of cottage cheese... holy yumtastic!

Followed by 2 mini lara bars, a handful of trail mix, a slice of sesame bread with cashew butter, a handful of dates and a few spoons of nut butter.... slight satisfaction.

Eventually I just decided to have dinner<-- yes DINNER not breakfast for dinner!

One of my absolute favorite foods growing up was mac and cheese. In times of restriction this became a major fear food for me. Probably because when I was younger I would kill the whole box as an after school "snack"... yea.

A lot of mac and cheese does not have the greatest nutritional stats but a while ago I grabbed a box of Annie's natural organic, the ingredient list is really legit so I felt good about it!

I jazzed it up inspired by Gabriela with spinach, broccoli and mushrooms. I also added a scoop of yogurt recommended per the box and it was super creamy!

Plus a great amount of black pepper and hot sauce, how I've always done it and clearly always will! It was perfect, comforting and absolutely delicious. I am already excited to have leftovers for lunch! Mac and Cheese, I will never abandon you again.

Plus another piece of toast with sunflower butter and fruit spread.

*Also, I really want to do a Q&A vlog but I don't have any Q's! Please feel free to ask anything about running, weights or myself and I'll answer what I can!*

Peace!

Caitlin

Do you or have you ever had fear foods?

How to you jazz up pre-made meals?

Caitlinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07250402081821763898noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7748035643120551802.post-16096483499968802562011-03-31T09:57:00.001-05:002011-03-31T09:57:47.712-05:00It's Official
I am getting a cold =(

It's not too bad yet so I'm taking steps in order to keep it that way, I will not miss my long run on Saturday!

I used my neti pot this morning. If you don't know what that is here is an example.

You mix salt and warm water and it goes in one side and out the other! I know it looks weird and may seem gross but trust it works!

I'm also taking extra vitamin C and plan on getting a green tea I.V.

I still went to the gym with the plan of a "do whatever feels alright" workout, I did an easy 50 minutes random bike workout

I was going to have a breakfast bake (in fact the batter is still in the fridge) but all I really wanted was hot oats.

Hi, I'm Caitlin and I'm a Barney Butter addict. I finished one while waiting to use the other for oats... WOW

Super almondy oats

Oats cooked with milk, almond extract and stevia

topped with vanilla almond granola and strawberries

The rest of the almond butter

My first class was cancelled so I'm going to get my studying out of the way early so I can do some other stuff this evening!

*Also, I really want to do a Q&A vlog but I don't have any Q's! I need some sleepy sleep so I'm sorry for the speedy recap!

Lunch was a salad with a serving of barley, sweet peas, black eyes peas, 1/2 a big tomato and 1/2 a cucumber topped with superfruit berry vin plus a strawberry chobani repackaged for no chance of bursting. Oh and bio exam studying =)

With a nice view from the science center

Snacking on some butter crunch cashews. pretzels and dried cherries (had more than pictured... trust)

Someday I will have DINNER for dinner I promise but my eggs actually expired yesterday and for me redundancy trumps wasting food. I did put a spin on my omelet. I mixed the eggs with cinnamon and stevia and then stuffed it with macadamia nut and cashew butter.

And topped it with microwaved frozen bloobs and banana slices with some baked sweet potato slices on the side. I've been way snacky again tonight... once again my hunger seems to wait until I get back to my room in the evening, if anyone has a solution please let me know!

Peace!

Caitlin

How often do you get sick? Um... never, that's why I'm so upset

Caitlinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07250402081821763898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7748035643120551802.post-81917585552836971892011-03-30T09:34:00.000-05:002011-03-30T09:35:19.503-05:00I. I've never talked politics before basically because that's not what the blog is about ,but, fun fact about me is I am very interested in them and grew up in a somewhat political family.

We would watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report every night during dinner! I also spent my Halloween weekend on a whirlwind trip to DC to go the the Rally to Restore Sanity!

I've mentioned before that I go to school in Wisconsin and if you are familiar with what is going on at the WI capital you can imagine that it has spread to a tiny, liberal arts, hippie campus like mine. Given my new found dislike of Scott Walker and my love of activism you can imagine how dumb excited I was to be standing right outside of my dorm, on my campus of merely 1250 students, roughly three feet from this person..

Reverend Jesse Jackson.... I have been curling 15 LBS on a regular basis and my 15LBS rows and dead-lifts are beginning to feel easier so I should be moving up soon! I am also running faster and feel like I am recovering between workouts so much better (shocker).

I have seen massive improvement especially in my hair, for the first time in almost a year it's not coming out in chunks every time I wash it! My skin is still very dry although I put lotion on daily. I think I am in need of more omega-3's.

Mentally has been good and bad. I have been struggling more with fat talk because I have put on weight (which I needed to!) but of course ED is not happy about it. Of course this is a common problem among young girls and I just keep reading healthy tipping point and trying to overcome it!

The other thing I have been struggling with is fear of restriction. If I accidently let myself get overly hungry I end up somewhat compulsively overeating. I think this is because my body is so afraid that I am restricting again.

I am trying to make it a point to focus on intuitive eating which is scary for me because it makes me realize how much I need and it tends to feel like "too much" although it is not.

My new smaller goals are to incorporate more protein in general and find ways to convince my body and myself that I will not restrict .

I did an interval bike workout this morning (covered 15 miles and 62 minutes in total)

Then held plank

PLANK TIME!!! =D

For breakfast I had two whole grain waffles, one with cashew butter and honey and one with cream cheese and fruit spread. Without a doubt. Let's just sum this up. As seen in my morning post, this weekend I bought salted cashews, dark chocolate almonds and butter toffee peanuts.

In the mail today from the amazing PerMa I got the same dark chocolate almonds, dill pickle cashews, butter cashews, cashew butter and almond, peanut cashew butter (seen above).

Plus a workout shirt, earrings and protein bars

How well she knows me =D.

From myself in the form of amazon I got cashew butter (good thing I like cashews), macadamia nut butter and PB2. I need to cancel my amazon account... although PerDa did just front me some extra cash <3... nut butter enabler =)
So that's four new jars of nut butter and five new jars of nuts... my good cholesterol will be through the roof!

Clearly the nut of the moment

Can we just talk about how all of this sparked my nut butter tooth to an insane level? I started with this snack.

I continued to sample most of my new products through the afternoon. I wasn't starving for a "real meal" for dinner so I made a bowl... with more nuts.

Yogurt, sweet potato, pretzels, cheerios, all kinds of nuts, dried fruit and nut butter and honey. Totally random but still healthy so I'm ok with it! It actually started here...

But by the time I sat down to eat a handful of homemade snack mix (cashews, almonds, cheerios, dried cherries and raisins) appeared on it along with a little drizzle of sunflower butter.

I also had some dark chocolate and more butter cashews. What is with me and breakfast for dinner lately? I have so much dinner type food to use up before school is over I hope my want for it comes back soon!

For lunch I mixed a cup of lima beans with feta and cranberries and dijon plus two corn tortillas and an apple. So there was a little green and freshness today =).

My nut butter escapade was delicious but I am jonsing for greenage! I have my big salad packed up for lunch tomorrow! For some reason I love when I crave vegetables, it makes me feel like a health dork =).

Now what someone has to convince me to do is NOT order more barney butter... I'm very much almost out!

Peace!

Caitlin

Are you an online shopping addict? I browse a lot but the only place I order from on the regs is amazon... probably because they have my card number saved =(.

Favorite type of nut/nut butter? I refuse to pick, clearly I love them all! I do go in kicks (on a cashew one now) and I will say that I always prefer crunchy over smooth though I'm not opposed to smooth! I hope I get on a walnut kick soon... I have a TON!

Caitlinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07250402081821763898noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7748035643120551802.post-71040184613094722342011-03-28T10:34:00.000-05:002011-03-28T10:35:08.856-05:00Bad Blogger Update
I'm so sorry I've left you guys hanging for the past few posts! For the first time in many months I have somewhat of a social life.

A major part of eating disorders is self isolation. Your ED convinces you this is for many reasons. You're better than everyone else, you only need your ED, you really want to be alone..blah blah blah.

The main reasons I have been reaching out to people is because I was sick of being alone. That fact in itself shows progress towards recovery. In addition the people I have been reaching to are those who I feel I can tell about what I am going through because you cannot fully recover without support. It is a great distraction from your ED voice and can make you remember what is really important.

I used to love to go out on the weekend. I loved being with people most of the time. My ED had convinced me that I no longer liked people but of course... it was a lie. I have been having a great time reconnecting with people and making new friends.

For lunch put together some fun fajita type things (scientific term). I got corn tortillas at the store today so i topped each with laughing cow, a bunch of chili-lime white bean dip, veggies and salsa. I had grapes on the side which were so appealing for whatever reason.

DELICIOUS

Per usual for me my appetite has not been on point all day. I got a little hungry for a snack so I mixed up PB2 and jelly sauce with some pretzels

Hi, I'm Caitlin and I'm boring addicted to omelets. Veggie om-nom with mango, toast with smart balance, fruit spread and PB... come on you know me.

I feel my appetite slightly returning, I'll probably get in a dense snack soon... I'm going out again tonight =)

Peace!

Caitlin

Tell me about your best friend!

Caitlinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07250402081821763898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7748035643120551802.post-34295192647287558972011-03-26T11:09:00.001-05:002011-03-26T11:09:55.119-05:00It's Just a Flesh Wound
Sorry for the late post! It was my first running fall though so I felt cool (I'm not weird). I didn't know whether to keep going or not but I decided to try and then ended up finishing! I also had to run back to campus to pee around mile 5... and my iPod died, and it started snowing.

I'm just as surprised as you are to hear myself say it was actually a great run!

I did have a cliff bar before and for a quick refuel

Parfait in an almost empty PB jar! nut butter straight up has been my bedtime snack of choice recently so I'm gaining a good amount of parfair and oat worthy jars

Yogurt, quakers oat squares, banana, honey, cinnamon, PB= Perfection

Off to grocery and homework land!

Peace!

Caitlin

Do you normally stay up late? I used to all of the time but now I NEVER do, I did have a great time though =)

Have you ever fallen on a run? Well if you are a reader of the blog you know that I absolutely love pretzels. And if you are not a regular reader I will tell you know that I love love love pretzels. However what I don't love are empty calories which don't fill me up, such as refined carbs, such as pretzels.

Well these babies are whole grain

And have 4 grams of protein! not bad at all for a crunchy snack food!

I tried a few ( love how big they are) with some apple slices and salted cashews. It was a legit filling snack. The pretzels are really good! They are crispier than other pretzels which I think is a good thing and other than that the taste is like delicious sourdough pretzels!

For lunch I had a random snacky plate of veggie chik'n nuggets, triscuts with cream cheese and fruit spread and veggies with chili-lime white bean dip

For dinner I cooked up quinoa and baked some tofu. Then stir fried the quinoa with veggies in braggs and red pepper flakes and topped it all with sunflower butter. Delicious and easy, everyones favorite!

Peace!

Caitlin

What are you favorite whole grains?

What are your plans for Friday? I'm hoping to see the Vagina Monologues and maybe check out a campus party... though I have to run 10 miles in the morning =P.

Caitlinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07250402081821763898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7748035643120551802.post-45628763967502732322011-03-25T13:04:00.000-05:002011-03-25T13:05:10.572-05:00Chili-Lime White Bean Dip
Very sadly I ran out of hummus the other day =(. Instead of waiting to go to the store this weekend I utilized skills other than shopping to make an alternative dip!

Chili-Lime White Bean Dip

Ingredients

1 15 ounce can of white bean drained and rinsed

2 tsp minced garlic

1/2 tbsp chili powder

Juice of 1/2 a medium lime

2 tsp olive oil

How To

Put everything in a food processor and combine until smooth. Taste and adjust spices to desired taste. I even ended up adding some garlic salt because I want to loose all of my friends =).

Keeps nicely in the newly empty hummus container!
