Amber Waves of Grain

I another package today...

DSCI0170.JPG

12 bags of organic spelt sourdough pretzels... and I only have 6 weeks left of the semester... oops.

The big question, why did I order them? Well if you are a reader of the blog you know that I absolutely love pretzels. And if you are not a regular reader I will tell you know that I love love love pretzels. However what I don't love are empty calories which don't fill me up, such as refined carbs, such as pretzels.

Well these babies are whole grain

And have 4 grams of protein! not bad at all for a crunchy snack food!

DSCI0179.JPG

I tried a few ( love how big they are) with some apple slices and salted cashews. It was a legit filling snack. The pretzels are really good! They are crispier than other pretzels which I think is a good thing and other than that the taste is like delicious sourdough pretzels!

For lunch I had a random snacky plate of veggie chik'n nuggets, triscuts with cream cheese and fruit spread and veggies with chili-lime white bean dip

For dinner I cooked up quinoa and baked some tofu. Then stir fried the quinoa with veggies in braggs and red pepper flakes and topped it all with sunflower butter. Delicious and easy, everyones favorite!

Peace!

Caitlin

What are you favorite whole grains?

What are your plans for Friday? I'm hoping to see the Vagina Monologues and maybe check out a campus party... though I have to run 10 miles in the morning =P.

Official Foodie

What do foodies get excited about?

201103191340.jpg

Nut butter (exotic and overpriced is best)

201103191341.jpg

Different varieties of greens that we promptly turn into chips .

201103191342.jpg

Who knows why... we just love it.

Any kind of grain that isn't wheat (although some of us do still like wheat!)

Nooch, because who doesn't love making your veggies taste like cheese while getting all the B12 you need for life?

And....

DSCI0027.JPG

Seeds! Chia being the variety of the day! They came in the mail yesterday from amazon. I decided to try them with lunch today!

DSCI0011.JPG

I also wanted everything else in my room.... yea. Sesame toast one with avocado, tomato and hot sauce (don't judge) and one with laughing cow and ch-ch-ch-chia! Baby carrots and strawberries as well.

And the verdict? Awesome... duh. Fun, tiny, crunchy texture added with amazing nutrients packed in!

Peace!

Caitlin

Have you tried chia seeds? How should I use them?

Add more foods to my foodie loves list! I've already also thought of sweet potatoes, yogurt, honey and cinnamon

What I Bought

So when I needed to order a foam roller I decided to treat myself to a few things from Amazon because I will have a ton of work study hours this month (I will be going crazy the last week of Feb and first week of March). I guess I had a moment of weakness because what arrived today I hate to say I am a little ashamed of.

I love marshmallow's but they're not vegetarian =(. When I saw this I was just so excited about the option of marshmallow type fluff I went for it. I would just like to note I did not get this because it was calorie free but because the ingredient list is actually less gross than marshmallow's and it's a veggie alternative to the real thing.

Lunch was for a five year old quite delicious!

I has PB&J on a whole-wheat english muffin, carrots and skim milk. Looks skimpy but I use a hefty amount of PB! And for anyone who was ever a girl scout knows that this had to happen

Hey fluffer- nutter sandwich! My key for this new product (which tastes great in the most fake way possible) is MODERATION... this will be the hardest to not have for 3 meals a day everyday.

Afternoon snack was a sliced apple and some hummus/yogurt dip (two big spoonfuls of each mixed up)

Dinner was super real and super amazing! Because it's Friday I decided to cook instead of do homework!  I mixed up these three things plus some lemon juice and water...

And stir-fryed up some tofu, corn, peas, onions, broccoli and quinoa. So yum!

Topped with cashews and red pepper flakes, totally hit the spot! And a mug of peach/mango/orange oolong to go with the asian theme!

Everyone ready for the weekend? I'm hoping to get an outside run in tomorrow!

Peace!
Caitlin

Do you have any "fake" food's that you love?
Are you celebrating V-Day over the weekend or waiting until Monday? I have a special lunch date with myself planned on Monday =) but I may treat myself a little this weekend too!
